The best 1-2 week Itineraries to see the  Wild Atlantic Way!

These 4 different itineraries are designed to assist you in planning your trip to the Wild Atlantic Way (WAW) in Ireland. The WAW is one of the best road trips on this planet. It is best to make the most of it when you visit.

I have travelled the entire WAW on my motorbike and some by car. Most of it I have seen more than once, so I know the best parts of the Wild Atlantic Way to visit.

These bespoke routes are designed for bike or car drivers and will take you to Signature points along the way, and other cool locations, depending on your available time and preferences.

FAQ's

Frequently asked questions.....

  • How long will we travel every day?
The itineraries take into account a travel time of between about 5 and 8 hours each day, including stop times at locations. The longer itinerary has a rest day halfway through, in order to more thoroughly enjoy the wonderful city of Galway.
  • How flexible are the itineraries?
As an ex- Project Manager I understand that any project never runs exactly as planned. This is why we plan, so that we can take rectifying action in case anything goes wrong. The itineraries are all very clear, so that if you decide to leave out a location or add one, you can see the effect in time that it will have on your day and act accordingly.
  • How much of the WAW will we see?
The entire WAW is between 2,600 and 2,700km long. So depending on how much time you have and which itinerary you choose you will only see a percentage of it. Although the 14 day itinerary takes you from start to finish and to all the Signature points, you will still only see part of the Wild Atlantic Way route. Much of the WAW route goes to Discovery points on the coast. To see everything you really need at least a month of travelling to visit every location and even then you would be pushing it for time. Not all Discovery Points are on the mainland.
  • How easy is it to drive in Ireland
Really self-driving is the only way to see Ireland at its best. Remember to drive on the left and read the signs. Only drive on the beaches when it is clear you are allowed to and there is someone there with a tractor to pull you out if you get stuck! • I have plenty of time to plan my trip, why do I need an itinerary?
If you have plenty of hours free to plan then, of course, be my guest. Go to explorewaw.com and use the free routes there to plan your trip. These itineraries are designed for people who do not have time to do that, and who do not know Ireland very well. So if you need advice on the best things to see, but do not have time to work out the best route, you will need to get one of these.
  • Which itinerary should I choose?
This depends on the amount of time you have available and whether you wish to visit the Southern or Northern counties. Pick an itinerary close to your number of days in the country. Then you can choose to either have an extra day to explore, or cut the trip a day short to get back to the airport in time, depending on your flight schedule.
  • How do I receive the product?
You will be sent an email with a link to a shared folder where you can access the main PDF product and the KML file(s). The bespoke Google Maps are a download link in the PDF file.
  • Can I share this with a friend?
This product is copyrighted (photographs and text) and you purchase this product for your own personal use. But if you find it useful and wish to inform a friend then please send them a link to our site.
  • Do I need any special software to use the product?
The product is provided in the form of a PDF document and one or two Google Maps routes. So you will need software that can read and print a PDF file, and Google Maps will need to be on your phone or tablet. KML file(s) are provided for GPS readers.
